General: Perennial herb from a woody taproot and branching stem-base; stems several, slender, tufted, branched, prostrate to ascending, often mat-forming, 10-30 cm long, with short, stiff, appressed, unbranched hairs.
Leaves: Alternate, pinnately compound, 1.5-3 cm long; leaflets 7 to 13, narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate, pointy-tipped, 5-12 mm long, densely short-appressed-hairy, at least on the lower surface; stipules lanceolate, 2-4 mm long, fused half their length.
Flowers: Inflorescence a loose, axillary raceme of 3 to 10 spreading, pea-like flowers, the racemes on stalks equalling or shorter than the leaves; corollas yellowish-white to purplish, 5-8 mm long, the banner much longer than the wings and keel; calyces about 1/2 as long as the corollas, the linear-lanceolate teeth about 2/3 as long as the tube.
Mesic to dry scree slopes, gravelly banks and grassy knolls in the subalpine and alpine zones; rare in SE BC, known only from McLatchie Creek, Flathead Pass and Mt. Gass, Fording River valley; E to SK, S to WY and C ID.
